Tarsali Market Row: Vendor Slaps Woman After Argument Over Vegetable Prices, Sparks Protests

A vegetable vendor slapped and abused a woman following a heated altercation over rising vegetable prices at a market near the Tarsali bus stand in Vadodara, sparking localized protests and a swift police response to maintain order in the area.

The dispute escalated rapidly on Tuesday night after the lorry vendor behaved indecently with the woman during a debate over vegetable rates. As the argument intensified, the vendor grew enraged, verbally abusing the woman and slapping her.

As news of the assault spread rapidly across the neighborhood, an angry crowd gathered at the spot. Seeing the growing crowd, the accused vendor fled the scene to avoid confrontation.

Senior police officers rushed to the location to prevent the incident from taking a communal turn, immediately deploying security personnel across the entire market area. Bajrang Dal workers also arrived at the site as tensions mounted following the altercation.

Local Residents Stage Ramdhun Protest Seeking Action

Demonstrators maintained composure and formally lodged a police complaint against the assailant. Following the police report, residents assembled near the accused vendor's residential society to stage a peaceful protest, chanting 'Ramdhun' from 1.00 pm onwards. The crowd eventually dispersed at 4.00 pm after police officials provided them with a copy of the registered complaint.

Local residents made it clear that their protest was directed solely at the perpetrator and not at other truck drivers or vegetable sellers operating in the Tarsali market.

"The actions of one person cannot be used to punish another," a local resident stated, confirming they held no grudge against other traders in the area. "Our only demand is strict action against the individual who behaved indecently and threw stones."

The police have registered an official complaint against the absconding vendor and initiated further legal action to trace and apprehend the accused.
