Tantric who duped Vejalpur widow of ₹14 lakh arrested from Rajasthan

In a case of fraud under the guise of tantric rituals, Ahmedabad Police have arrested a man from Rajasthan for duping a woman of ₹14 lakh. The victim had been in contact with the self-styled tantric through a YouTube channel following the tragic deaths of her husband and young son.

The incident dates back to 2024 when the woman lost her two-year-old child and her husband in quick succession. Grieving and vulnerable, she approached the tantric for spiritual guidance, only to fall into a carefully orchestrated trap. The accused, identified as Ram Pratap Bhargav Dhanraj, along with an accomplice known as Gurumata alias Vijendradevi, allegedly exploited her distress to extort large sums of money.

Police investigations revealed that the accused warned the woman that her own life was in danger due to tantric forces and pressured her into paying money for protection and rituals. Over time, she transferred a total of ₹14 lakh to the fraudulent tantric.

Acting on a complaint filed at Vejalpur Police Station, the police launched a coordinated operation and apprehended Ram Pratap Bhargav Dhanraj from Dungarpur, Bikaner, Rajasthan. However, Gurumata alias Vijendradevi is absconding and is currently being sought.

A B Valand, ACP, M Division, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The accused took advantage of the woman’s vulnerable state and defrauded her in the name of tantric rituals. Our team is actively pursuing the remaining suspect.”

Police have registered a formal complaint against both accused and are continuing investigations to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent activities and to ensure the remaining perpetrator is brought to justice.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of pseudo-spiritual scams targeting vulnerable individuals during periods of grief and distress.
