Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) seized suspected adulterated ghee worth ₹1 cr from Patan. Acting on a tip-off, the department raided Shri Raj Rajeshwari Dairy Products in Parth Estate, near Krishna School, Patan, uncovering a potential manufacturing unit of adulterated ghee.

During the raid, the owner, Rakesh Modi, was absent from the premises, prompting officials to seal the godown and inform local police. Later, when the owner arrived, the godown was opened in the presence of police, exposing a massive stockpile of palm kernel oil.

Upon questioning, the owner claimed that ghee was being made from butter, but no butter was found anywhere in the facility, raising serious suspicions of adulteration.

Officials collected 11 different samples from various batches and packaging of the seized ghee. These samples have been sent for laboratory testing to confirm the adulteration. Authorities confiscated 17,200 kg of fake ghee, with an estimated market value of ₹1 crore.

Despite frequent seizures of fake ghee in Gujarat, strict legal action against adulterators remains absent. Even in the Gujarat Assembly, BJP MLA Kishor Kanani raised concerns over the issue, highlighting that offenders often escape with fines, allowing them to continue their illegal activities.
