Villagers of Soldi in Surendranagar’s Dhrangadhra are up in arms against Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel for allowing the construction of his son's waste treatment plant on fertile land.

On the outskirts of Soldi village, amidst agricultural land, Devyogi Health Care Pvt Ltd had started the process of building a biomedical waste treatment plant. During the public hearing against the plant, a large number of villagers, farmers, and others gathered and protested.

Approximately 80 farmers also submitted written objections to the deputy collector. However, despite the protests, the application for approval of the biomedical waste plant reached the final stage of environmental clearance proceedings in Gandhinagar, which led to an uproar.

As per reports, one of the partners of Devyogi Health Care Pvt Ltd is the son of Agriculture Minister Patel.

The local farmers have raised concerns regarding biomedical waste plant as it may harm the fertile land and groundwater in the area.

Against the construction of the plant, local MLA Prakash Varmora and MP Chandubhai Shihora had also made representations to Tourism and Forest Environment Minister Mulubhai Bera, who turned a blind eye to the issue.

A series of meetings have started in the village, with the villagers likely to reach out to the Chief Minister’s Office in Gandhinagar to protest against the deal.
