A case of extorting money through the arm-bending of several individuals has emerged from Gujarat, where Bhagirath Zala, a BJP councillor from Surendranagar, is accused of demanding ₹50 lakh from his business partner’s family.

According to a complaint by Narendrasinh Jadeda, Zala befriended a Bhavnagar-based construction business owner, Jayveersinh Jadeja, Narednrasinh’s son. He then engaged in Jadeja’s business and the duo had monetary exchanges between them.

Recently, the corporator demanded ₹50 lakh from Jayveersinh, over which he had summoned Narendrasinh to a hotel in Vartej on Feb 15. He even allegedly threatened to kill him for failing to pay this amount.

According to the complaint, Narendrasinh had met Zala to discuss his demand along with his relatives Yogendrasinh and Krishnarajsinh, who were also threatened and abused by the councillor.

Zala also abused and threatened Krishnarajsinh’s brother, Vishalsinh.

Based on the complaint, the police framed several charges against the councillor, including Sections 387, 504, and 506 (2) of the IPC.

As per the Vartej police inspector, MV Rabari, police have examined the CCTV footage of the hotel and interrogated four people. A thorough probe is currently underway.
