Surat’s VR Mall receives bomb threat, panic ensues

Surat’s VR Mall, situated on the city’s Dumas Road, found itself in a state of panic today as it received a bomb threat via email.

Upon receiving the threatening email, instructions were given by the mall management to its staff to evacuate the mall immediately.

Some individuals reportedly tripped and sustained injuries amid the hurried evacuation.

Responding promptly to the situation, a team comprising Surat’s Umra Police, dog squad, and bomb squad quickly mobilised and rushed to the mall premises. Additionally, senior officials from the Surat police promptly arrived at the scene to coordinate the situation.

The threatening email mentioned saving “as many lives as you can; there will be a blast.”

It is important to note that similar emails have been received at a total of 52 locations in the country.

A police officer said in this regard, “An email has been received at VR Mall indicating the presence of an explosive device set to detonate in the morning. Our specialised teams, including the SOG (special operations group) crime unit and dog squad, are investigating the matter. The mall is currently being evacuated and checked thoroughly by our team.”
