Surat woman kidnaps newborn after husband demands 5th child post-miscarriage
Khatodara police and Surat Crime Branch apprehended a woman from Navagam Dindoli, Surat who had kidnapped a newborn from New Civil Hospital on Friday evening to fulfil her husband’s demand for a child after her miscarriage.
As per reports, 32-year-old Radha Jha, a Bihar native, had a miscarriage 15 days ago when she was seven months pregnant. Subsequently, she kidnapped a child to fulfil her husband’s desire for a baby.
Radha, and his husband, a worker at a handloom factory, have three daughters and one son. However, her husband did not have any affection for these children and wanted another child.
This issue led to frequent quarrels between them. Meanwhile, Radha was expecting again but ahead of her delivery date, she had a miscarriage.
Thereafter, Radha abducted a newborn baby from the New Civil Hospital on Friday, to hand it over to her husband.
Police traced her via Aadhar card
After the child was kidnapped from the civil hospital, CCTV footage at the hospital was checked.
The security supervisor and the civil’s Resident Medical Officer Dr Ketan Nayak too had a look at the footage. The face of the woman was visible in the footage, and it seemed familiar. Later, it was found that the woman had previously worked at the New Civil Hospital.
A copy of her Aadhaar card was dug out from past records. Based on the address mentioned in the card, the police went to the woman’s house and nabbed her with the child, hospital sources said.
When the Khatodra police interrogated her about this, she repeatedly changed her statements. Moreover, due to weakness from her recent miscarriage, she felt dizzy, and the police admitted her to the hospital for treatment in the afternoon. After two hours, she was discharged, and the police resumed their interrogation. The police are also investigating her husband’s role.
Gate pass for each patient
Civil’s In-charge Medical Superintendent Dr Parul Vadgama said that new tag machines will arrive in the coming days. Only one gate pass will be given to each patient. Security guards will be increased at the main gate of the Stem Cell building.
At every exit gate, the belongings of patients, their relatives, and staff, including bags, will be checked. Moreover, necessary instructions have been written on the signboards there. Security will be increased at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Appropriate actions are being taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
