SMC is setting up two new Suman High Schools in the city’s recently developed Puna and Pal areas.
Introduced to provide secondary education to the children belonging to weaker economic backgrounds in their vicinity, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) introduced Suman High Schools for secondary education up to Class 10. Currently, however, the government-run schools offer education up to class 8.
Now, these two schools, with all the facilities, will be constructed at a cost of ₹14 cr.
Keeping in mind the annual inflow of admissions for Suman High Schools, the administration decided to construct them in the city’s two developing areas.
SMC’s Suman School in Varachha’s Puna area is set to cost ₹6.44 cr, while the one in Rander’s Pal area will cost ₹7.65 cr, for which a proposal has been presented. A final decision over these schools will be taken in the standing committee’s meeting on Jan 25.
Currently, SMC runs 23 Suman High Schools in various areas of the city. More than 13,000 students belonging to economically weaker sections are enrolled in these schools.
A spike in demand for admission to these schools has led the corporation to start Suman High Schools in other mediums as well, including Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi.
