Surat teacher dies by suicide after alleged blackmail, youth booked

A 19-year-old tuition teacher in Surat died by suicide after being allegedly blackmailed by a youth with whom she was in a physical relationship. Investigations have also revealed that the victim had undergone an abortion.

The case came to light after Vijay Mangukiya, a member of the Patidar community submitted a letter to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, demanding justice for the deceased teacher from his community. Following this, a case was registered at the Singanpor Police Station in Surat.

On Thursday, the complainant’s advocate submitted an affidavit in court, stating that the victim’s mobile phone was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. 

The FSL report revealed Gmail chats between the victim and the youth, which contained references to their physical relationship, her pregnancy, and the subsequent abortion. The accused had allegedly blackmailed the teacher, which led her to take the harrowing step.

The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for September 1.
