Surat teacher found dead alongside two sons in suspected murder-suicide

Police said the teacher, identified as Alpesh Solanki, allegedly poisoned his sons, aged 8 and 2, before hanging himself. Investigators have not confirmed a motive, though initial accounts suggest domestic discord may have played a role.
Sequence of events
According to police and hospital sources, Solanki was originally from Chithodgam village in Sabarkantha district’s Vijaynagar taluka. He lived in Surat with his wife Falguni, a senior clerk in the District Panchayat’s education department.
When Falguni was unable to reach her husband by phone on Thursday, she contacted an acquaintance to check on him. After repeated knocks went unanswered, the door was forced open. Solanki was found hanging from a ceiling fan. His sons were discovered unresponsive on the bed nearby.
Police find empty poison bottle at scene
Umra Police reached the site shortly after and launched an investigation. Inspector Jignesh Rathva confirmed that an empty poison bottle was recovered from the room. “It appears that the children were poisoned before the man took his life,” he said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. A final determination will depend on forensic and autopsy reports. Officials are also expected to speak with Solanki’s colleagues and supervisors to assess whether any professional stressors may have contributed.
Family, school routine, and possible distress signals
Solanki’s elder son was a Class 3 student at a school on Dumas Road, while the younger child attended an anganwadi. The children were usually transported by van, but on Thursday, Solanki personally picked them up and brought them home.
That morning, his mother had attempted to call him. When he did not answer, she reached out to Falguni, who mentioned that their younger son had been unwell due to the weather but was recovering. Later in the day, both Falguni and her sister also tried contacting him without success.
Background of the couple
Solanki and Falguni reportedly met while living in Surat’s Pandesara area. They married with the consent of both families. Falguni is originally from Kapura village in Vyara, located in Tapi district.
Police said inquiries are ongoing, and no note has been recovered so far. Authorities are treating the deaths as a suspected case of murder-suicide pending further evidence.
