Surat golden Ramayana

A Lord Ram devotee in Surat has created a marvel to witness by writing the widely revered epic Ramayana with gold ink to welcome the prestigious festival of Ram Navami.

This rare ‘Swarna Ramayana’ (golden Ramayana) book has 222 tolas of gold along with diamonds and rubies embedded in them. It weighs a staggering 19 kg.

Each word of the Ramayana, based on the life of Lord Rama, has been written with gold ink.

The main page of this 530-page Ramayana is made of silver. A 20-tola statue of Rama sits on its cover, along with 10 kg of silver, 4,000 diamonds, rubies, and sapphires.

The paper used for this book, imported specially from Germany, is extremely white and catches no stain despite touching it.

In addition, ‘Shri Ram’ has been mentioned on the butter paper 5 cr times, which is placed between the pages.

This gold Ramayana, adorned with diamonds and other precious stones, is brought out for the public only once a year on the occasion of Ram Navami and then deposited back in the bank.

A Surat-based couple, Rajeshkumar Bhakta and Indira Bhakta, residing in the city’s Bhestan area, take care of this book.

Rajeshkumar said that his late grandfather, Gokal Bhakta, had prepared this book in 1981.

It is said that at that time, it was prepared by 40 people in nine hours on the days of ‘Pushya Nakshatra’ (an astrological phase representing growth, wealth, and spiritual development).
