Surat railway station overcrowded, passengers face 12-hour queues despite of special trains

Surat’s Udhna Railway Station witnessed heavy crowds just a day before Diwali, as migrant workers rushed to reach home to their loved ones. Queues at the station stretched all the way to the surrounding streets.
From Friday night, workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand have been waiting for trains, many standing in line for 12-18 hours. Elderly people, women, and children were enduring heat, hunger, and thirst, hoping to board trains.
The railway administration had announced hundreds of extra special trains for the festive season. However, despite these arrangements, many passengers could not board trains even with valid tickets. Trains to UP and Bihar remain overcrowded, with passengers waiting overnight in long lines.
At Udhna station, RPF personnel are alert and active, managing the festive crowd with utmost efficiency 🚉✨

One passenger heading to Bihar said, “I have been in line since 10 pm last night, but even after 12 hours, my number hasn’t come up.” Another waiting for the Prayagraj train shared that he has been standing since 7 pm, yet still hasn’t secured a seat.
Similar scenes have been reported from Mumbai and Delhi, where stations are overcrowded and trains are packed, leaving passengers frustrated and anxious.
