Surat police today nabbed three with a drug consignment worth a soaring ₹4.15 cr.
One of the accused, a history-sheeter, was nabbed with 2 kg of drugs, which the other two had found on Surat’s Hazira beach.
Drug nexus carried out by three in Surat
Surat police carried out a ‘No Drugs in Surat City’ campaign, under which the department has nabbed three perpetrators operating a drug nexus in the city.
It was a while ago when the two accused in this case, Pinkesh Patel and Abhishek Patel, landed upon drug packages of 8.3 kg worth nearly ₹4.15 cr from Surat’s Hazira beach.
One of these two drug dealers worked for Adani ports, while the other also worked at Hazira.
Eyeing to make quick money, the duo then took 2 kg from it to their associate Jatin, alias Jaggu, and buried the rest in their backyards for later sale.
As per the police, the busted drug consignment was sold at almost ₹50 lakh/kg in smaller quantities.
Divided the drug package to avail hefty sales
Surat police commissioner Ajay Tomar said, “SOG (special operations group) and PCB (police complaints board) had established that a hefty sale of drugs was being carried out in the city. Thereafter, Jatin was arrested from Rander (Surat), and more than 2 kg of drugs were recovered from him.” He added, “This accused had earlier been arrested in two other cases, including a murder. The drugs were supplied to him by Pinkesh Patel and Abhishek Patel, residents of Hazira area.”
As per police, Pinkesh and Abhishek handed over 2.17 kg (worth ₹1.08 cr) of the package to Jatin while keeping nearly 6.14 kg (₹3.07 cr) with themselves for selling.
Police today seized drug packages in said quantities from the accused from their respective locations.
Surat police’s efforts against increasing drug sales
Drug packets were also found on Surat’s Suvali beach earlier. The city police have been in constant touch with the local fishermen regarding such incidents in the coastal areas.
This practice has led to a few successful busts for the city police in the past.
