The Surat police on Wednesday foiled an attempt at insurance fraud, solving the robbery case of diamonds worth ₹32.48 crore and ₹5 lakh cash in Kapodara area.
The police revealed that the diamond entrepreneur Devendrakumar Chaudhary had orchestrated the robbery at his diamond unit to claim the insurance money.
The police arrested Chaudhary, his son Ishan, and two others involved in this theft.
Seized items:
- ₹2.40 lakh in cash
- 4 mobile phone
- Temp
- Gas cylinder
- Cutter
According to reports, the police have arrested two drivers working for Chaudhary, Vikas Bishnoi and Ramjeevan Bishnoi, in the Godara area of Surat.
The plan
Chaudhary had included his son Ishan and the driver Vikas while orchestrating a plan for a robbery.
Later, Vikas added Hanumanram Bishnoi to the plan nearly 15 days ahead of the robbery.
To create a fake burglary, Chaudhary agreed to pay ₹20 lakh to the participants.
As per the plan, on August 16, Hanumanram, along with his three counterparts, reached the godown to rob the diamonds. However, their first attempt at robbery failed. They again managed to get a gas cutter and on the night of August 17, ‘stole’ the diamonds from the godown.
