Another chilling incident emerged from Surat, where a family of three committed suicide at their residence in Rustam Park vicinity of the city’s Limbayat area.

As per preliminary information of this case, Somesh Jila, 38, reportedly hanged himself to death after poisoning his wife, Nirmal, and seven-year-old son Devrushi.

Following this incident, Limbayat police rushed to the scene, and landed upon a note and a mobile phone. It is suspected to be a suicide note.

However, the reason behind the mass suicide it is not yet established.

The police have sent the bodies for postmortem, and a thorough investigation is launched into this matter.

Recently, a mass suicide case was also registered in the city’s Adajan area near Palanpur Jakatnaka on Oct 28, 2023, where a family of seven, including three children, ended their lives. This incident shook the entire city.

Reports suggest that the incident unfolded against the backdrop of severe financial difficulties, though the precise cause still remains under investigation.

As per Congress spokesperson, Dr Manish Doshi, at least 13 families have committed mass suicide in Gujarat in the past year, in which 41 people, including children, have lost their lives.
