Surat girls cheated of ₹1.13 lakh in fake Thailand trip scam
A fraud case has been registered at Adajan police station of Surat against two people who allegedly cheated two girls of ₹1.13 lakh in the name of Thailand trip.
According to the police complaint, the victims contacted a travel company called Tripo Jungle Agency after getting advice from a friend. One of the accused is Ashruta Pravin Patel, who claimed to be connected with the agency. Patel offered them a Thailand tour package worth ₹1.13 lakh. The package included flight tickets and hotel booking for both girls.
The girls agreed and transferred the money in parts. However, the trip was cancelled twice. The first time, one girl had to cancel because she injured her eye during Diwali while bursting crackers. The second time, the other girl cancelled due to a tourist visa interview for the United States in Ahmedabad.
After repeated cancellations, the accused and her agent, Love Ashok Sharma of New Ranip, allegedly collected a total of around ₹1.38 lakh from them. Later, the girls became suspicious and checked the flight tickets. They found that the tickets had already been cancelled and the travel agency did not actually exist.
When they confronted the accused, only ₹25,000 was returned. The remaining amount was not returned. Realising that they had been cheated, the victims filed a complaint with the Adajan police.
Police have registered a case of cheating and started an investigation. Further inquiry is underway to trace the accused and verify financial transactions.
