A Class 12 science student in Surat was found dead early Friday morning in what police believe to be a case of suicide, with academic pressure suspected as a possible reason.

The deceased, identified as 18-year-old Tannu Ozha, was a resident of Dindoli’s Madolnagar area. According to police, she was found hanging at her home in the early hours of the day. Family members immediately brought her down and rushed her to New Civil Hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police said Tannu was studying in Class 12 science at Mary Mata Public School and had opted for biology as she aspired to become a doctor. Her board examinations were scheduled to begin in February, and she had reportedly been preparing seriously for them.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that she may have been under mental stress related to her studies. However, police officials said the exact circumstances will be clear only after further investigation.

Tannu was the only child of the family. Her sudden death has left the family devastated. Her father earns his livelihood as a rickshaw driver. Police have initiated proceedings and are recording statements as part of the investigation in Surat.
