Surat citizens litter roads during Run for Unity police cleans up after event

On the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31, the Surat Police organised a ‘Run for Unity’ that marked the presence of a large number of Surat residents. However, once the grand event concluded, scenes that followed raised questions about Surat’s image as a ‘clean city’.

After the run ended peacefully, trash such as snack packets and water bottles were found scattered all along the route. Many participants tossed their empty packets and bottles onto the road, and within moments, the area was covered in litter — creating an unpleasant sight right after a national unity celebration.

Surat Police officials, including the commissioner of police and other senior officers, cleaned the streets of trash.

Even officers’ wives joined them voluntarily, helping clean the area.

Together, the senior officers and their families launched an impromptu cleanliness drive, setting an example for citizens.
