Supplier of adulterated ghee at Ambaji temple commits suicide
Jatin Shah, the owner of Neelkanth Traders, the supplier accused of providing adulterated ghee to the Ambaji temple, committed suicide this morning at his house in Narol. Coincidentally it is his birthday today.
The police have already begun the investigation and so far, no suicide note has been found. According to police, Shah may have taken the extreme step under pressure.
Shah was accused of having sold 300 tins of substandard quality ghee to Mohini Caterers, following which he was arrested on Oct 5, and was released on bail later by the Danta court.
As the ‘Bhadarvi Poonam’ fair at Gujarat’s Ambaji temple concluded on Sept 29, a controversy sparked up regarding the famous mohanthal prasad. The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) found that substandard ghee was supplied which was falsely represented as being Amul ghee.
Himatnagar-based Sabar Dairy filed an FIR against Mohini Caterers, a firm that has been given the contract to make mohanthal prasad.
Amul also registered a complaint against Mohini Caterers at Ambaji police station for falsely using the company’s name.
Ambaji police reached Ahmedabad following a lead that adulterated ghee used in ‘mohanthal prasad’ was supplied by Lal Darwaja-based Neelkanth Traders to Mohini Caterers.
