Two separate incidents of student violence in Ahmedabad and Surat—both involving minors and knife attacks—have raised fresh concerns about escalating aggression among school-going teenagers.

Ahmedabad: Classmates clash over seating, one stabbed

In Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed by a 17-year-old classmate following a dispute that began over seating arrangements during a tuition class.

According to the complaint filed at Bapunagar Police Station, both the complainant and the accused are Class 11 students at a private school in Saijpur Bogha and also attend the same commerce tuition classes.

The altercation began when the accused asked the complainant to move to another room due to limited space, leading to an argument. The situation escalated later in the day when the two encountered each other again near Bhomia Dairy in Hirawadi.

During the confrontation, the accused stabbed the complainant on the left side of his abdomen, leaving him seriously injured and bleeding heavily. The accused, along with another friend, took the injured boy to Civil Hospital in a rickshaw. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Surat: Teen stabbed outside school after altercation at function

In a separate incident in Surat, a teenage boy was stabbed following an argument that began during a school function.

The victim had attended his younger sister’s annual school event when a minor altercation broke out after a student accidentally stepped on another’s foot while dancing. A teacher intervened and reprimanded those involved.

Later, at around 8.30 pm, when the victim—identified as Naresh—was leaving the venue, he was confronted at the school gate by a 17-year-old Class 9 student.

“You were showing too much attitude inside, now let’s see who is stronger,” the accused allegedly told him.

He was then assaulted by the accused and his associates—identified as Rakesh, Rudra and Dinesh (names changed)—who punched and kicked him. During the attack, one of the accused reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Naresh in the stomach and left side of his waist.

As bystanders gathered, the accused fled the scene. The injured boy was taken to New Civil Hospital for treatment.

Police action and wider concerns

In the Surat case, Pandesara Police detained all four accused minors following a complaint filed by the victim’s father. Legal action has been initiated.

Both incidents involved disputes over seemingly minor issues that escalated into serious violence, highlighting concerns around conflict management and safety among students in urban areas.
