Around 300 housekeeping staff working at the SVP Hospital run by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) went on strike on Apr 4, demanding permanent jobs.

The employees staged a protest on the hospital campus with slogans demanding the abolition of the contract system.

It is noteworthy that the contract for housekeeping at SVP Hospital was awarded to Faber Sindoori Management Services.

As the contract with this company is ending on Apr 16, the employees of the old contractor were instructed to work with the new one.

However, the employees were not willing to work with the new contractor and hence gathered in large numbers on the hospital campus this morning and protested against the hospital administration’s policy.

Hospital CEO Saurabh Patel said, “300 employees in three shifts are employed for housekeeping work in the hospital. The hospital administration had received an application from the employees to protest. Alternative arrangements have been made to ensure that the cleaning work of the hospital is not affected. The contractor company has been informed about the employees’ strike.”
