Stray dog complaints rise by 20% in Ahmedabad amid summer heat

Complaints related to the stray dog menace in Ahmedabad have risen by around 20% as temperatures soar to nearly 40℃.
According to data from Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), residents have reported an increase in incidents involving aggressive behaviour by stray dogs, including chasing pedestrians, damaging vehicles and continuous barking at night.
Officials said the rise in temperature during peak summer months tends to make animals more irritable, which may be contributing to the increase in such incidents.
On an average, the civic body receives 10 to 12 complaints daily related to nuisance caused by stray dogs, such as persistent barking, chasing motorists and tearing vehicle seat covers.
In addition, two to three cases of dog bites are being reported each day, officials added.
Areas including Shilaj, Sarkhej, Aslali, Naroda, Sardarnagar, Asarwa, Khokhra, Vasna and Vadaj have reported a higher number of complaints, particularly in localities with open spaces and ongoing construction activities where stray dog populations are relatively higher.
