Store manager booked for alleged ₹6 lakh misappropriation at telecom firm in Ahmedabad
A store manager of a private telecom firm has been booked for allegedly misappropriating funds and inventory worth ₹6.24 lakh during his tenure.
As per a complaint filed at Paldi Police Station, the accused, identified as Varun Chandubhai Gajera, was employed as a store manager with Pujara Telecom Private Limited and was responsible for handling sales and cash transactions.
Mukesh Kumar Mohandas (40), a finance professional with the company and a resident of Ahmedabad, alleged that discrepancies were detected during an internal audit conducted on January 28, by the company’s zonal sales manager.
Police said the audit revealed that cash payments received from the sale of mobile phones, accessories and other electronic items amounting to ₹4.91 lakh across multiple transactions had not been deposited in the company’s account, in violation of internal protocols requiring next-day deposit of sales proceeds.
Further scrutiny reportedly uncovered additional irregularities, including ₹50,000 from internal company transfers that was not deposited, and a missing high-end smartphone valued at ₹82,900, which was shown as available in stock but was not found during verification.
“Taken together, the total value of misappropriated funds and inventory has been calculated at ₹6.24 lakh,” a police officer said.
Despite repeated demands by the company to return the amount and account for the missing inventory, the accused allegedly failed to do so and provided evasive responses.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant sections pertaining to criminal breach of trust and cheating. An investigation has been initiated to verify financial records and establish the full extent of the alleged fraud.
Officials said statements of company staff, including the auditor, are being recorded as part of the probe. Further action will be taken based on the findings.
