Ahmedabad man found dead at his residence

A 41-year-old stockbroker was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head near his residence in Bopal area of Ahmedabad late on Tuesday night, prompting police to launch a multi-agency investigation. While a suicide note was recovered from the scene, investigators are probing all possible angles, including whether the fatal shot was self-inflicted or fired by someone else.

The deceased, Kalpesh Tudiya, a resident of Kabir Enclave, was reportedly involved in stock market trading and lived with his wife and daughter.

According to preliminary details, two individuals had come to meet Kalpesh at his residence around midnight on Tuesday. At the time, his wife and daughter were downstairs in the house. Moments later, they reportedly heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed upstairs, where they found Kalpesh severely injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident created panic in the neighbourhood, especially as early accounts suggested unknown persons had fired a shot and fled the scene. However, a suicide note found in Kalpesh's pocket shifted the direction of the investigation.

Police officials said the weapon used in the incident is yet to be recovered, adding further complexity to the case. Investigators are exploring whether Kalpesh died by suicide or was shot by one of the visitors.

“There is also a possibility that the weapon may have been removed from the scene—either in panic or deliberately—by someone known to the victim,” a senior police officer said. “We are examining all possibilities, including whether a relative or someone close to the victim may have disposed of the weapon.”

Teams from the Bopal police station, Local Crime Branch (LCB), and Special Operations Group (SOG) are jointly handling the investigation. Senior officers visited both the crime scene and the hospital, and forensic experts are analysing evidence from the site.

Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the movements of the two visitors and determine how they may be connected to the incident. Family members, including Kalpesh’s wife and daughter, are being questioned, although their statements have reportedly varied—sometimes suggesting suicide, at other times hinting at foul play.

Investigators are also looking into “financial transactions and possible disputes related to stock market dealings”, which may have played a role in the incident.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police have urged the public not to speculate as investigations are underway.
