Private players in Gujarat have benefited the most from the Gujarat Electricity Board’s (GEB) inability to conduct recruitments as per the official calendar, therefore opting to outsource operations completely.
State-run companies like Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (UGVCL), Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL), and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL), which fall under the GEB, have paid ₹77.22 cr to their temporary staff in two years.
DGVCL has paid ₹30,31 cr to private agencies in 2022 and 2023 as wages. Similarly, MGVCL has paid ₹28.34 cr for wages in the same tenure. While UGVCL has paid ₹18.57 cr.
Most office work of these companies is also outsourced.
The department has clarified in the state assembly that the recruitment process has been paused until an indeterminate time at these firms.
Other public departments are splashing around ₹10 cr to ₹12 cr every year over these contractual employees. Moreover, reports of their exploitation have also gathered moss in close circles.
Wages disbursed to contractual employees:
Department | 2022 | 2023 | Total |
MGVCL | ₹12.44 cr | ₹15.90 cr | ₹28.34 cr |
UGVCL | ₹8.20 cr | ₹10.36 cr | ₹18.57 cr |
DGVCL | ₹13.01 cr | ₹17.30 cr | ₹30.31 cr |
Total | ₹33.65 cr | ₹43.56 cr | ₹77.22 cr |
