Speeding trucks fatally knocks down 3.5-year-old boy in Daskroi

A three-and-a-half-year-old boy died during treatment after allegedly being hit by a speeding pick-up truck near Gamdi village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, police said.

According Vivekanandanagar Police, the incident took place on the evening of May 21 near Swastik 2 Flats in the Gamdi area of Daskroi taluka.

The deceased child, identified as Krishna, was the son of Navghanbhai Jhala, a daily wage labourer originally from Mehsana district and currently residing near Gamdi village.

 

Navghanbhai stated that he was at work in Vatva when he received a phone call around 7.30 pm informing him that his son had met with an accident and had been rushed to hospital.

Krishna’s mother, Varsha, had gone to Vatva along with another woman and the children to purchase groceries. After returning home by rickshaw around 7 pm, the family had alighted near their residence and were standing by the roadside when a pick-up truck allegedly arrived at high speed and struck the child.

The complainant alleged that the vehicle, was being driven in a rash and negligent manner. Krishna reportedly sustained severe injuries to the back of his head and other parts of his body after being run over by the vehicle.

The child was initially taken to a private hospital in Vatva before being shifted to L G Hospital and later referred to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital for advanced treatment.

Doctors at SVP Hospital declared the child dead at 10.34 pm on May 21, police said.

Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver of the pick-up truck and further investigation is under way.
