Speeding Truck Kills Woman Near Aslali Kamod Bridge in Ahmedabad

A 35-year-old woman died after a speeding truck hit the Activa she was travelling on with her husband and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter near the Aslali Kamod Bridge in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The woman, Vaishaliben Prajapati, fell onto the road after the collision and was run over by the truck. Her daughter, Grishma, suffered injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The accident took place on September 9 when 38-year-old Rakeshbhai Prajapati, a private company employee from Bareja, was travelling to Ognaj with his wife and daughter. The family was going to check on the health of Vaishaliben’s father, who was unwell. The truck hit their Activa from behind near the Aslali Kamod Bridge, throwing all three onto the road.

Woman Dies in Front of Husband

Vaishaliben came under the truck’s wheel and suffered serious injuries. She died at the spot in front of her husband. Their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Grishma was also injured in the accident and was shifted to a hospital for treatment. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled.

Based on a complaint filed by Rakeshbhai, the K-Division Traffic Police registered a case against the absconding truck driver and started an investigation. Police are trying to trace the driver who fled after the accident.

The accident has also raised concerns over road safety near the Aslali Circle and Kamod Bridge. The stretch sees heavy vehicle movement, while speeding during peak hours and vehicles losing control while coming down the bridge have reportedly caused several accidents. Local residents said the area has been identified as a black spot, but alleged that no effective measures have been taken by the civic authorities and police to improve safety.
