A day after a young man died in a high-speed crash near the GMDC ground, police have revealed that the BMW motorcycle he was riding had touched speeds of up to 163 kmph moments before the accident.

The deceased, identified as Parth Kalal, died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with a BRTS railing late on Monday night. Investigators said the impact was so severe that Parth’s body was found nearly 100 metres away from the mangled bike.

According to the Traffic A Division police, the collision with the metal railing caused catastrophic injuries, including the severing of the victim’s arm. Preliminary findings also indicate that although Parth was wearing a helmet, the safety belt or strap had not been fastened, reducing its protective effect.

Police have registered a case of accidental death and begun further inquiries. Officers are also consulting BMW engineers and RTO officials to technically verify the motorcycle’s speed parameters and assess whether any mechanical factors contributed to the crash.

Speaking to the media, Nitesh Desai, PI, Traffic A Division, said, “The investigation so far suggests the motorcycle was being ridden at extremely high speed. The speed analysis from the vehicle indicates it touched 163 kmph. Technical opinion from BMW and the RTO will help us confirm these findings.”

The police are continuing the probe and examining CCTV footage from the stretch to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the fatal accident.
