A 25-year-old man was killed on Sunday after he was knocked down by a speeding motorcycle on CG Road, one of Ahmedabad’s busiest commercial stretches, police said.

The deceased was identified as Prakashchandra Dindor. The accident occurred near Mardia Plaza, where Dindor was walking along the road when a motorcycle, allegedly being ridden at high speed, rammed into him.

Police identified the biker as Sufiyan Mustafa. According to preliminary findings and eyewitness accounts, the rider was allegedly performing stunts on the motorcycle at the time of the incident, leading him to lose control of the vehicle. Residents said the bike swerved suddenly before crashing into the pedestrian, throwing Dindor onto the road.

Dindor suffered grievous injuries in the impact and died on the spot, police said. Passers-by alerted the authorities, following which traffic police and local police teams rushed to the scene. The body was later sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered against the biker under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused has been detained for questioning, and further investigation is under way to establish the exact sequence of events, including the speed of the motorcycle and whether the rider was under the influence of alcohol or any other substance.

Traffic police officials said CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded. “Reckless riding and dangerous stunts on public roads pose a serious threat to pedestrians and other commuters. Stringent action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” a senior traffic police officer said.
