Ahmedabad Police on Thursday arrested a dumper driver attached to Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) after his vehicle fatally hit a 20-year-old youth near the police lines in Danilimda. The teenager, identified as Aman Sheikh, had gone out on his scooter to buy medicines for his ailing mother when the accident occurred.

According to the K division traffic police, the collision took place around noon near the Danilimda police lines. Aman was riding his Honda Activa towards a nearby pharmacy when the AMC dumper, driven by Shaileshbhai Garasia, allegedly approached at high speed. Witnesses told officers that the dumper was being driven “in a rash and negligent manner” before it veered into Aman's path and struck his two-wheeler.

The impact threw Aman off the scooter. Bystanders rushed to help and alerted the emergency services. A 108 ambulance shifted him to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

K division traffic police reached the spot soon after the crash and detained the driver. “Preliminary investigation indicates the dumper was overspeeding and the driver failed to keep control, leading to the fatal accident,” a senior traffic police officer said.

Garasia was booked under sections of the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act for causing death by negligence and reckless driving. His vehicle has been seized for mechanical inspection and to verify whether any technical fault contributed to the mishap.

Police have recorded statements of eyewitnesses and are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to corroborate the sequence of events. “Further investigation is underway. We will also check the dumper’s maintenance records and whether all safety norms were followed,” the officer added.
