A Reddit post describing a series of late-night looting attempts near the Vishala bridge in Ahmedabad has sparked concern among local residents and social media users, many of whom say the area has long been unsafe after dark.

In the post shared on Friday, the user wrote that in the past few days, several attackers have been targeting two-wheelers after 11 pm, attempting to stop vehicles by throwing wooden sticks or batons. The user described a personal incident, claiming that a wooden baton was hurled at his bike while returning from office. He managed to escape but spotted a group of 3-4 men allegedly waiting to block and loot riders.

According to the post, two of his friends had experienced similar attacks, and a female friend was reportedly hit when the men tried to block her vehicle.

The user expressed shock that these incidents occurred despite a police checkpost being just 500–600 metres away, adding that such cases were not new and had been happening for years.

The post triggered several responses from Ahmedabad residents, warning others to avoid the area late at night:

One user wrote, “It’s always better to avoid that area after 9 pm, especially on 2-wheelers. Most guys are chursi (drug addict) they do anything to get money.”

Another added, “Here are a few more areas to avoid at night — Vatva 4 Maliya, Narol Road, Danilimda.”

A third commented, “Vishala area post-midnight is notorious… illegal migrants from the Pirana area do these things. Always avoid that route after midnight.”

Police respond

When GS Digital reached out to the police, Vejalpur Police Inspector R M Chauhan said, “We are already keeping an eye on that route, and if something happens again, we will make sure to catch the culprits.”
