Rocky, a 9-year-old German Shepherd from the Gujarat Police Dog Squad, officially retired on Saturday after years of dedicated service. A farewell ceremony was held in his honor at the Gandhinagar Police Headquarters.

Rocky was born on June 13, 2016, and was inducted into the police force on January 23, 2017. Following his induction, he underwent nine months of rigorous training as a sniffer dog at the Police Dog Training Centre in Ahmedabad under the direct supervision of Police Inspector Natubhai K Rohit. He was later assigned to handler Ganesh Singh Chauhan and deployed with the Gandhinagar Dog Squad.

During his eight years of service, Rocky played a crucial role in multiple high-security operations. He was actively involved in detecting narcotics, explosives, and aiding in criminal investigations. He also served in VIP and VVIP security duties, including visits by the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor, Home Minister, and international dignitaries during major events like the Vibrant Gujarat Summit at Mahatma Mandir.

Police officials praised Rocky’s contribution, especially his coordination with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) in Gandhinagar, where he became a trusted team member.

Now that Rocky is past the age of active duty, he has been officially retired and relocated to the dog hostel in Anand, a special facility for retired police dogs run by the police department.
