Snehanjali Society demolition row escalates in Ahmedabad, councillor forced to leave

The dispute surrounding Snehanjali Co-operative Housing Society in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej ward has intensified after the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) issued demolition notices to residents.
The corporation has served notices to all 25 families, asking them to vacate the premises by December 16.
This has triggered panic and anger among residents who have been living in the society for over 35 years and now face the threat of losing their homes.
On Monday, BJP councillor Samir Patel visited the society, but faced strong opposition from residents. Locals raised slogans against the BJP and surrounded him, forcing him to leave the area in his vehicle.
According to residents, the builder, Kantibhai, had constructed the society on a plot different from the one originally allotted and sold the houses. The original plot owner later approached the Supreme Court, leading to the society being declared illegal.
The society houses around 23 elderly families. Residents have accused the AMC of targeting innocent homeowners instead of taking action against the builder. Political tension continues to rise in the Thaltej ward as residents await the administration’s next move.
