Smooth road near Maninagar MLA’s house within 24 hrs, while no respite for commoners

The monsoon has caused over 3,000 potholes in Ahmedabad. Even as Amdavadis face discomfort, Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has ensured that political leaders enjoy utmost comfort. To ensure Maninagar MLA Amul Bhatt is not inconvenienced, AMC built two new 10-foot wide roads on either side using the micro-resurfacing method outside his house – all in 24 hours.
The AMC reportedly spent ₹200 per square foot on this resurfacing work.
Bhatt was AMC’s Standing Committee chairman in AMC’s last term. When potholes appeared on the road outside his house, it was resurfaced using micro-resurfacing technology to make it smooth.
Meanwhile, large potholes around Railway Crossing No. 308, just 100 feet away, were ignored by the AMC. Thousands of vehicles pass through that stretch daily, but no patchwork or repair efforts have been carried out yet. In contrast, where a normal road near the MLA’s residence had deteriorated, two smooth 10-foot roads were constructed in a matter of hours before more rain could hit.
For the past month, over 20 potholes have remained unrepaired in the one-kilometre stretch from Maninagar Railway Crossing to Jashodanagar, despite regular rainfall.
