SK Langa scam: Land donated by Muslim & Patel families for panjrapole seized by elites
On July 11, former Gandhinagar collector IAS S K Langa was arrested over corruption regarding the 2200 bigha (880 acres) of the land meant for sheltering cows (panjrapole) in Mulasan, near Ahmedabad. However, the five-day remand and arrest of Langa can be a smoke screen for providing the safe passage to some. The reports also suggest that many big names are being safeguarded in the whole scenario.
The land in question was given away by Muslim and Patel families for the cows and cow-grazing in 1918. The land was on the leasehold for 99 years, and according to the land-agreement, the leasehold was supposed to renew automatically every 99 years.
The delay in acquiring the land, stopping activities on it
Moreover, the government also has been extremely slow to label the land ‘Shree Sarkar’, a land that was given to or acquired by the government. On the other hand, if the government does not intend to acquire the land, it should be put under the ‘Green Zone’ to stop any constructions on the land, and dismiss the transactions done on it.
The otherwise proactive government has declared Green Zone in 68 villages, but there have been no steps taken to stop illegal construction on this ₹20,000 crore land.
IAS S K Langa, a scapegoat?
According to sources, authorities have been looking for legal loopholes to save many big names, and keep them out of the scandal. Whether the accused will be prosecuted for criminal conspiracy under IPC Section 120B is a question that is still lingering
Many believe that S K Langa has been made a scapegoat to divert attention from the real scandal. Only Langa’s scandals are being looked into, so a safe passage can be created with that diversion for the other culprits.
Meanwhile, S K Langa had filed a writ challenging his five-day remand. However, it was dismissed by the Gujarat High Court.
