Six held for IPL cricket betting racket in Ahmedabad, cash and mobile phones worth ₹3 lakh seized

The Detection of Crime Branch Ahmedabad late on Friday night busted an alleged cricket betting racket operating from a residential apartment near Memnagar Lake and arrested six persons. The accused were allegedly placing bets on an ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings using multiple online betting platforms.

The raid was carried out around 11.15 pm on April 3, 2026, at a flat in Anand Park Apartment, located opposite Memnagar Lake. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Crime Branch obtained a warrant under the Gambling Act and conducted the operation.

The arrested accused have been identified as Kapil alias Chirag Thakkar (24), a resident of Chandlodia; Abhay Pravinbhai Thakkar (30) and Yashkumar Maheshkumar Akhani (30), both residents of Memangar; Meet Prakashbhai Jaiswal (25); Kalpeshbhai Tekchandbhai Thakkar (35); and Dhruv Dilipbhai Thakkar (27). All are stated to be engaged in business or private employment and are originally from the Banaskantha district.

Police said that during the raid, the accused were found actively betting on the live IPL match through websites and mobile applications. A total of 16 mobile phones worth ₹2.10 lakh and cash amounting to ₹50,110 were seized from their possession, taking the total value of the seizure to ₹3.10 lakh

Several betting accounts were being operated through platforms such as ‘pdm999’, ‘dollar365’, ‘allpanelexch9’, and others. The accused allegedly used multiple user IDs and passwords to place bets and monitor real-time match odds. Investigators found large virtual balances in some of these betting accounts, indicating ongoing gambling activity.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly told police that the flat used for the operation had been rented by Abhay Thakkar and Yashkumar Akhani. The group had assembled there specifically to gamble on IPL matches. Police further said that some of the accused were working on a commission basis, while others were placing bets directly.

The probe has also revealed the involvement of other suspects who allegedly supplied betting IDs and facilitated the operation. These include individuals identified as Kishanbhai Thakkar from Science City, Ronakbhai Thakkar from Patan, and Deepbhai Thakkar from Ahmedabad, among others. Several customers who had obtained betting IDs are also under the scanner.

The investigation has identified additional suspects who supplied betting IDs and facilitated the gambling network. An offence has been registered under Sections of the Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway. Police said that efforts are ongoing to trace the absconding accused and to uncover the wider network behind the betting syndicate.
