SIR in Gujarat completed: 4.40 cr+ registered voters, 3.95 lakh names deleted

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Gujarat has been completed in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, with the final voter list officially published on Tuesday.
The statewide exercise began on October 27, 2025, and concluded with the release of the updated roll on February 17, 2026. Chief Electoral Officer Harit Shukla said the campaign was carried out in “mission mode” across the state to ensure accuracy and transparency.
According to the final list, Gujarat now has a total of 4,40,30,725 registered voters.
During the revision process, approximately 3.95 lakh names were deleted from the roll. At the same time, around 5.60 lakh new voters were added after publication of the draft electoral roll.
The revision exercise was undertaken by 34 District Election Officers, 182 Electoral Registration Officers and 50,963 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who played an active role in verifying and updating voter data.
Surat district recorded the highest number of deletions, with 85,734 names removed, followed by Ahmedabad district, where 47,627 names were struck off the list.
As part of efforts to enhance transparency, all enumeration forms were fully digitised. Booth-level officers conducted door-to-door surveys to identify deceased voters, those who had permanently migrated and individuals whose names appeared in more than one constituency.
Following consultations with booth-level agents of political parties, the list of voters whose forms were not returned was also uploaded to the Chief Electoral Officer’s website to maintain transparency in the process.
