Shortage of commercial gas cylinders in Surat and Vadodara concern for businesses

The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel is beginning to affect the supply of commercial LPG cylinders in parts of Gujarat, with businesses in cities like Surat and Vadodara reporting shortages.
Hotels, restaurants, cafés and other establishments that rely heavily on commercial gas cylinders are facing increasing difficulties due to the disruption in supply.
As per reports, traders and food businesses in Surat say they are struggling to obtain commercial LPG cylinders. There are around 67 commercial gas distributors in the city, but many customers are facing delays due to limited availability.
According to gas agency operators, the waiting period to receive a commercial cylinder has stretched to 10–15 days, creating concern among businesses that depend on regular gas supplies to operate.
The Middle East conflict has reportedly disrupted the international gas supply chain, leading to irregular deliveries and reduced availability of cylinders.
The impact is now being felt not only by businesses but also by households in some areas. Earlier, the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) issued a circular allowing industries to temporarily use approved liquid fuels as an alternative to gas in order to manage the supply disruption.
Reports suggest that a similar situation has emerged in Vadodara, where traders and businesses are also facing difficulties in obtaining commercial cylinders. According to the city’s Distributor Association, around 14,000 cylinders are required daily, but current demand has risen to nearly 20,000 cylinders per day as businesses try to stock up amid uncertainty.
Vadodara has 36 gas distributors, but the widening gap between supply and demand has led to shortages and growing concerns among traders about future availability, as per reports.
