Ahead of monsoon, a sewage overflow issue has surfaced at Meher Homes in Shela, West Ahmedabad. Sewage water spilled onto the roads and entered the parking area of the housing society, creating unhygienic conditions and causing breathing difficulties due to the foul odour, residents have alleged.
Sewage overflows are frequent during the monsoon season and have been reported mostly from eastern Ahmedabad. However, a similar situation has now emerged in the posh areas of West Ahmedabad even before the onset of the rainy season.
According to local residents, roads inside Meher Homes-4 society in Shela have been flooded with contaminated water for the past two days. The situation worsened after sewage water entered the society’s parking area. Residents alleged that the stagnant sewage water damaged their vehicles and created unhygienic conditions, while the foul odour caused breathing difficulties for them.
Residents alleged that their complaints have fallen on deaf ears and the authorities have not taken any concrete action. They further expressed concern that the stagnant sewage water could lead to a rise in mosquito breeding and other insect infestations in the area, posing additional health risks.
Residents warned that if the issue was not resolved promptly, they may be forced to resort to other ways.
