Classes at the Seventh Day Adventist School in Khokhra, Ahmedabad have been suspended after tension prevailed in the eastern part of the city following the stabbing of a class 10 student by a class 8 student of the school. The district education officer has ordered the school to conduct online lectures for now.

Moreover, around 200 schools in Maninagar, Khokhra, and Isanpur areas have declared a holiday amid the growing tension following the death of class 10 student.

Over 2,000 shops, including Sindhi Bazaar, remained shut after a ‘bandh’ was announcement.

To prevent any further disturbances, there was heavy police deployment in the area with security in place up to 500 metres around the school.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has called for shutdown of the school, while the Vishwa Hindu Parishad declared closure of schools in Maninagar and nearby areas.

Moreover, the DEO has written to the commissioner of police, stating that classroom teaching cannot be conducted without police deployment at the school.

For the safety of teachers and staff who need to attend school for online teaching and other work, police security has been sought till the situation returns to normal.
