Seven-month-old girl rescued, 4 held in Dholka in suspected trafficking racket

The Ahmedabad Rural Police have arrested four persons in connection with the abduction of a seven-month-old girl from Dholka town, suspecting it to be part of a wider child trafficking racket. The child, who had been reported missing two days ago, has been rescued safely and is currently in police custody.

The incident came to light after the infant was allegedly abducted while she was sleeping on the roadside with her parents. A formal complaint had been lodged with the local police, prompting an intensive search operation.

Om Prakash Jat, District Superintendent of Police (Rural), said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a racket involving child abductions. A police team is in the process of bringing the accused from other states. The child is in our safe custody. Further information will be revealed after detailed interrogation.”

Initial investigation revealed that one of the accused is a nurse employed at an IVF centre in Dholka. She is alleged to have kidnapped the child and taken her to Aurangabad to sell her. The woman, along with the individual who had allegedly purchased the infant, has been arrested.

Confirming the development, police officials stated that a team from Ahmedabad Rural Police is en route back from Aurangabad with the arrested accused.

DSP Jat has appealed to the media to remain patient. “We will be able to disclose further details only once a thorough interrogation has been completed,” he said.

The police are now probing the possibility of a larger network involved in child trafficking and are expected to make more arrests in the coming days.
