Gujarat High Court has initiated a probe after a senior advocate was seen drinking beer during an online hearing in Justice Sandeep Bhatt's court on June 26.

Following this incident, Justice A S Supehia barred the senior advocate, Bhaskar Tanna, from appearing in any virtual hearings. The high court further suggested that this ban rule should be placed before the Chief Justice, and if approved, it will be implemented across other benches as well.

The court remarked that such behaviour from a senior advocate sets a bad example for young lawyers and is not acceptable.

As per reports, until the Chief Justice rules on the matter, the advocate will remain barred from participating in virtual hearings.

The court has also directed that a detailed report be prepared and that the video clip of the incident be preserved until the hearing. Additionally, the court has ordered that a notice be served to advocate Tanna with the next hearing scheduled for two weeks later.
