In Gujarat, over 13 lakh vehicles are running on roads in a deteriorated condition, posing a serious risk to road safety. With the implementation of the scrap policy, vehicles older than 15 years would  no longer be allowed on the roads..

The impending policy states that vehicles older than 15 years, without the necessary fitness certification, must be sent for scrapping. For that, fitness centers and scrap centers have been set up in Gujarat to deal with this issue.

Under the new regulations, vehicles with fake fitness certificates could face fines up to ₹10,000.

A report presented in Parliament revealed that 13,03,368 vehicles in Gujarat are running without the required fitness certificate, posing a serious safety threat.

Additionally, the RTO mandates that all vehicles must be registered, yet there are 22,72,619 vehicles in Gujarat that are unregistered, ranging from two-wheelers to cars, trucks, and tractors. If vehicles are not registered, a penalty of five times the annual tax can be imposed on the offenders.

Despite these strict penalties, many vehicle owners continue to operate unregistered vehicles. The RTO conducts checks occasionally, but no proper action is taken to address the issue yet.
