Spending time in the lap of nature and beholding the picturesque sight of animals, and birds, especially the king of the forest, the lion is one of the favourite attractions among tourists. As a result, there has been a surge in the number of tourists visiting sanctuaries in Gujarat.
Sasan Gir on top
Gir National Park has the highest number of tourists among the sanctuaries in Gujarat. According to a government report, 5,09,956 tourists visited Sasan Gir in the year 2021, through which the forest department earned revenue of ₹9.72 cr. Foreign tourists also made up a large part of visitors wanting to see the king of the jungle up close.
Nal Sarovar and Thol Sanctuaries are the second best
Thol and Khijadia Sanctuaries received 56,490 and 11,854 visitors, respectively, which generated an income of ₹9.15 lakh.
Ahmedabad’s Nal Sarovar and Thol Sanctuary are best for spotting various migratory birds, especially in the winter. The two sanctuaries are among the next top sanctuaries after Gir National Park. 61,286 tourists visited the Nal Sarovar to spot various birds on a boat ride, through which an income of ₹58.45 has been generated.
Other sanctuaries
Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary in Banaskantha has the highest number of bears in the state. 980 visitors came to Jessore throughout the year, earning ₹1.21 lakh from it.
19,163 people visited Ratanmahal Sanctuary of Panchmahal in 2021, earning an income of ₹12.36 lakh.
The government also earned ₹8.48 lakh from the Marine National Park in Jamnagar, indicating a rising trend among the tourists to see the sea creatures.
Overall numbers
A total of 8,11,415 tourists visited the various sanctuaries in Gujarat throughout 2021. The government earned ₹131 cr from ticket fees to the sanctuaries.
