Sardar Sarovar Dam filled over 54%, Gujarat’s total water storage crosses 35%

As a result of heavy rains in the state, the water storage in Sardar Sarovar Dam, the lifeblood of Gujarat, has crossed 54%. The total water storage in Gujarat has crossed 35%. 

Sardar Sarovar currently has a water storage capacity of 1,81,229 million cubic feet (mcft) or 54.25% of the total storage capacity, while the total storage capacity of 206 reservoirs in the state is at 1,98,227 mcft or 35.38%, according to a report by the Water Resource Department of Gujarat.

As a result of the rains that have been pouring for the last two days in Saurashtra, three reservoirs have completely overflowed. Vagdia and Sasoi-II in Jamnagar and Vansal Dam in Surendranagar currently stand at 100% of their capacities.

Apart from this, eight dams of the state are on alert with 80-90% water levels — Ozat-2 and Bantva-Kharo dams of Junagadh, Godadhroi of Morbi, Bhadar-2 of Rajkot, Dholi and Baldeva of Bharuch, Fuljhar-1 of Jamnagar, and Saran dam of Porbandar.

A total of seven reservoirs in the state have water levels between 70%-80% — including Fuljhar (KB), Und-3 and Ruparel in Jamnagar, Aji-2 and Nyari-2 in Rajkot, and Dholidhaja dam in Surendranagar.

Apart from this, 13 reservoirs in South Gujarat have 38.57% of water, 17 in Central Gujarat have 37.23%, 141 in Saurashtra have 31.54% water, 15 in North Gujarat have 26.33%, and 20 reservoirs in Kutch stand at 22.92% of their total water capacity.
