The Santlalpur–Sanchore stretch which connects Gujarat and Rajasthan under the Bharatmala Highway was washed away during the very first rainfall, leaving behind large potholes that caused major inconvenience to commuters.

The poor condition of the highway soon after its construction sparked allegations of corruption. Following orders from the Union Ministry of Road Transport, a detailed probe was carried out, and the contractor responsible for the road has been fined ₹2.8 crore.

Construction of the Santlalpur–Sanchore Bharatmala road was completed just three months ago, but even before the onset of monsoon, the highway deteriorated badly. Heavy vehicles in particular faced difficulties as potholes appeared across the stretch. Complaints reached the Union Ministry, which then ordered an investigation.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) member Venkatraman personally visited Gujarat to inspect the site. He examined the road materials and overall quality of construction. The NHAI also collected samples for laboratory testing to verify quality standards.

According to officials, if the samples show substandard materials, further legal action will be taken. The Union Ministry has already confirmed irregularities in the construction and imposed a penalty of ₹2.8 crore on the contractor.
