More than eight years of demonetisation, the Sanand police on Thursday seized demonetised currency notes worth ₹1.90 crore from two individuals travelling in a private vehicle. The seizure was made following a tip-off and was carried out by Ahmedabad Rural Police.
The surveillance team, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a white Maruti Brezza on the Sanand-Bavla bypass road. Upon inspection, officials discovered a large quantity of demonetised Indian currency—29,756 notes of ₹500 denomination amounting to ₹1.48 crore, and 4,154 notes of ₹1,000 denomination amounting to ₹41.54 lakh -- stuffed in three bags inside the vehicle. The total face value of the seized currency stands at ₹1.90 crore. The car itself, valued at ₹6 lakh, was also impounded as part of the operation.

The suspects have been identified as Bharatbhai Gafurbhai Rabari (44), a resident of Ambaliyasar in Mehsana district, and Amartbhai Mafatbhai Rabari (36), currently residing in Nana Chiloda, Gandhinagar. Both were detained at the scene and are currently being interrogated. Legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended use of the seized currency.
