Sanand police crack murder case after body found in field, 2 arrested, 1 on run
The Sanand police have cracked a murder case involving the body of an unidentified youth found in a bushy field near Mukit Dham on June 10. Two persons have been arrested, while one is still at large. The deceased, identified as a 19-year-old youth from Bihar, was allegedly killed over a failed ransom plot hatched by three acquaintances, including the arrested duo.
As per the police, on June 10, around 11 am, the body of an unknown male, aged approximately 20–25, was discovered in an open field behind Panjrapol, opposite Mukit Dham, in Sanand. An accidental death report was initially registered, and later an investigation was begun after marks of force on the body had raised suspicion of foul play
Following sustained efforts to identify the deceased, police traced him as Niranjan, son of Tarkeshwar Sharma, a 19-year-old resident of Shahbazpur, Bhabhua, Kaimur district in Bihar. Investigators tracked down friends and associates of the deceased and found that three individuals, Ravi, Sunny, and Sonal, were last seen with him.
While Ravi had fled to Jharkhand and Sunny and Sonal to Bihar, police managed to detain Ravi and Sonal for questioning. During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to the crime. The three had reportedly believed that Niranjan’s family was financially well-off and planned to kidnap him to extort a ransom of ₹10,000 to ₹15,000.
According to the police, on June 9, the trio invited Niranjan to the Rajwadi Hotel at Nalsarovar for tea. Later, they lured him to a rented room on the pretext of dinner. As per the plan, Sunny allegedly smothered Niranjan with a pillow, while Sonal held his legs and Ravi restrained his hands. After the murder, the accused bought a trolley bag to transport the body and dumped it in a deserted field behind Mukit Dham in Sanand under the cover of darkness.
A post-mortem report later confirmed death by suffocation.
Based on these findings, a murder case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Two of the accused, Ravikumar Rameshkumar Rai and Sonalkumar Chittaranjan, have been arrested, while the third accused, Sunny alias Dharmendra Mandal, is absconding.
