Acting on a specific tip-off, the Sanand police late on Wednesday night raided a private bungalow at a weekend home project near Goras village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad and busted an illegal liquor party organised to celebrate a couple’s 25th wedding anniversary. As many as 81 people, 43 men and 38 women, were detained, police officials said on Wednesday.

The raid was conducted at Plot No. 200 of Safal Nirvana Greens, a weekend home project falling under the Sanand Police Station limits in Ahmedabad Rural district. The gathering was hosted at a private bungalow to mark the silver jubilee anniversary of a Mumbai-based couple.

According to the police, the party was organised by Amit Gopilal Pacheriwal (49), a resident of Jayant Mahal, D Road, Marine Drive, opposite Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Pacheriwal had arranged the celebration for his brother-in-law, Adarsh Agrawal, inviting friends and acquaintances, both men and women, to the bungalow.

Police said that foreign liquor was procured and served illegally, without any permit or pass, in clear violation of Gujarat’s prohibition laws. During the raid, officers found an elaborate setup with food counters, multiple tables and arrangements for serving liquor and hookah.

“Based on credible information, our team conducted a raid and found a liquor party in full swing. Several guests attempted to flee, creating chaos at the spot, but were detained,” a senior police officer said.

During the search, the police seized a substantial quantity of prohibited items and valuables. The seized muddamal includes eight sealed bottles of foreign liquor worth ₹43,550, seven partially filled liquor bottles, three empty liquor bottles, 70 drinking glasses, 10 hookahs, eight packets of hookah flavours, and 33 plastic containers of hookah flavours.

In addition, the police seized 74 mobile phones valued at approximately ₹26.30 lakh and 22 four-wheeler vehicles collectively worth around ₹2.65 crore. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹2.91 crore, police said.
