Enraged father abducts, assaults youth over daughter’s affair, five held in Sanand

Sanand Police in Ahmedabad arrested five accused in connection with a kidnapping and assault case reported on 31 May 2025. The incident, which stemmed from a personal dispute linked to a suspected romantic relationship, occurred near the crematorium road behind Moje Thakor Vasna, Sanand.

According to the police complaint, the victim was forcibly abducted around 3 pm by Jayesh Kalubhai Thakor of Nidhrad village and three unidentified accomplices.

The accused, allegedly incensed over the victim's relationship with the daughter of one of the assailants, arrived in a white Swift car and kidnapped the complainant from a three-road junction near Eklingji.

The victim was reportedly taken to the crematorium in Nidhrad village, where he was abused, beaten with a brick and an iron pipe, and assaulted with sticks, sustaining serious injuries. The accused also threatened to kill him.

The complainant has been identified as Shani Bhai Thakor, aged 23, who was reportedly in a relationship with the 19-year-old daughter of Jayesh Thakor, one of the accused.

According to the investigating officer, the victim and the girl had been involved in a relationship for the past seven years. Despite repeated warnings from her father, the two continued to remain in contact. Approximately a year ago, the girl was married to another man; however, she allegedly maintained communication with the victim.

When her in-laws discovered the ongoing affair, they sent her back to her parental home. This development reportedly enraged her father, who, along with his relatives, abducted the complainant in retaliation.

Based on the gravity of the offence, Sanand Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section of the Gujarat Police Act.

A dedicated teams by were formed by Ahmedabad Rural Police to track down the accused. Leveraging technical surveillance and confidential informants, the Sanand Police successfully arrested the accused within a short span of time and recovered both the vehicle and the weapons used in the crime.

The arrested accused have been identified as Lakshmanbhai Kanubhai Chhanaji Thakor (42), Jayesh Bharatbhai alias Kalubhai Dabhi (27), Ranchodbhai Ambalal Thakor (29), Jagdishbhai Babaji Vaghela (32) and Vikrambhai Dhanshyambhai Vaghela (35).
